Itinerary

Your local guide and vehicle will greet you directly at the cruise terminal. A short introduction to the region of Galicia and today’s itinerary as you begin your journey inland toward the cliffs.

Stop at: Vixía Herbeira Cliffs

Duration: 45 minutes

Your journey begins with a scenic drive through the lush Galician countryside, heading toward the Vixía Herbeira Cliffs. These cliffs are the highest sea cliffs in continental Europe, soaring over 620 meters above the Atlantic Ocean. Upon arrival, your guide will lead you along a short and safe walking path near the cliff edge, offering stunning panoramic views of the coastline and ocean. As you breathe in the fresh sea air, your guide will explain the geological history of the area and its significance as a natural landmark. This stop is a breathtaking introduction to Galicia’s raw beauty and dramatic landscapes.

Stop at: San Andrés de Teixido Pilgrimage Site

Duration: 1 hour

The tour continues to the sacred village of San Andrés de Teixido, a centuries-old pilgrimage destination nestled on the cliffs of Serra da Capelada. According to local legend, “He who does not visit San Andrés while alive will do so after death as an insect or reptile.”

Your guide will take you on a walking tour through the whitewashed village and to the Sanctuary of Saint Andrew, where pilgrims have come for generations to seek blessings and leave offerings. You’ll have time to visit the church, stroll the cobbled paths, and admire traditional handmade charms called sanandresiños. The spiritual atmosphere and dramatic ocean views make this a truly unique cultural experience.

Stop at: Leslie Howard Memorial Stop

Duration: 20 minutes

As you make your way through the hills and coastline, your guide will make a brief stop at a scenic lookout to share the story of Leslie Howard, the British actor best known for his role in Gone with the Wind. During World War II, Howard died in a mysterious plane crash off the Galician coast. Some believe he was involved in a secret mission related to wartime espionage. Standing at this viewpoint, you’ll look out over the Atlantic as your guide recounts the theories surrounding his death, adding a layer of historical intrigue to your day.

Break: Seaside Lunch in a Galician Fishing Village

The tour continues to the charming coastal town of Cedeira, a hidden gem along Galicia’s rugged shoreline. Here, you’ll enjoy a relaxed and delicious lunch at a local restaurant known for its authentic Galician cuisine. Dishes often feature regional specialties such as octopus, fresh fish, and local wines.

Duration: 1,5 hours

Stop at: Lighthouse and Abandoned Military Battery

After lunch, your guide will take you to a remote coastal lighthouse, perched high above the Atlantic, where you’ll enjoy one of the best panoramic views of the coastline. Below the lighthouse lies a hidden and abandoned military battery complex, once part of Spain’s coastal defenses.

You will descend part of the pathway to explore the old bunkers and artillery platforms, now slowly reclaimed by nature. This site offers a fascinating look into Galicia’s military history while also providing stunning photo opportunities of the dramatic landscape.

Duration: 45 minutes
