Itinerary

Your friendly local guide will meet you at the port and welcome you to an unforgettable day exploring the natural and cultural highlights of Litchfield National Park.

Backroad Journey to Finniss River (Approx. 45 mins)

Activity: Scenic drive through the lesser-known back roads of Darwin into traditional Aboriginal country.

Highlight: Stop at the shady banks of the Finniss River. Stretch your legs and learn about the diverse resources the river provides—bush foods, medicinal plants, and fishing methods used by local Indigenous people.

Duration at stop: ~30 mins

Note: During the wet season, the backroads may be inaccessible. The journey will instead follow the main highway through the town of Batchelor.

Termite Mounds & Bush Knowledge Walk

Activity: Short interpretive walk with your guide to observe the fascinating termite mounds, some towering up to 5 meters! Learn how termites are vital to the Northern Territory ecosystem and how Indigenous people use termite nests for traditional practices.

Duration: ~30 mins

Visit to Bamboo Creek Tin Mine or Tolmer Falls (Seasonal)

Dry Season (May–Nov):

  • Stop: Bamboo Creek Tin Mine
  • Activity: Guided walk through historic mining ruins. Learn about the pioneering past of the region and its cultural significance to the Aboriginal community.

Wet Season (Dec–Apr):

  • Stop: Tolmer Falls
  • Activity: Scenic short walk through stone country to a lookout point over the falls. Witness powerful water flows and lush wet-season vegetation.

Duration at stop: ~45 mins

Woolaning Spring (Dry Season Only)

Activity: Exclusive access to private Aboriginal-owned land. Enjoy morning tea beside a rainforest stream, swim in warm spring waters, or explore the remnants of an old family-run sawmill camp.

Duration: ~45 mins

Note: During the wet season, this area may be too boggy to access. Morning tea will be held at an alternative accessible site in the park.

Bush-Tucker Style Lunch

Location: Scenic outdoor setting in or near Litchfield National Park

Menu: Freshly prepared wild-caught barramundi, crocodile, and kangaroo, served with local sides.

Dietary needs: Vegetarian and allergy-conscious options available upon request.

Duration: ~45–60 mins

Wangi Falls

Activity: Visit one of Litchfield’s most iconic attractions. Enjoy a swim* in the plunge pool, walk through the surrounding rainforest, or take a more adventurous trail around and over the falls (optional).

Duration at stop: ~1 hour

Note: Swimming may be restricted during the wet season due to strong currents and potential crocodile presence. Viewing and walking trails remain open and safe.

Florence Falls Lookout & Swimming

Activity: Enjoy panoramic views from the lookout, then take the 135-step staircase down to the base for a refreshing swim in the plunge pool. Alternatively, opt for easier access upstream for a gentle soak.
