Aomori is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and abundance of notable attractions. On this shore excursion, you’ll explore a variety of traditional and historical landmarks, including the sacred Takayama Inari Shrine, the impressive Showa Daibutsu at Seiryuji Temple, the dynamic Nebuta Museum Warasse, and the iconic Aomori Prefecture Tourist Center.
Your Aomori shore excursion begins with a warm welcome from your private guide and driver at the port. The day’s adventure starts at Takayama Inari Shrine, one of Aomori’s most revered spiritual sites, dedicated to the Shinto deity Inari. Known for its symbolic fox statues and striking red torii gates—205 in total—the shrine is a stunning example of traditional Japanese religious architecture.
Next, head to Seiryuji Temple, which translates to “Blue Green Dragon Temple.” The temple’s highlight is the massive seated Buddha statue, Showa Daibutsu, crafted from blue-green bronze. Nestled amidst a lush forest, the statue stands as a powerful symbol of peace and fortune, drawing visitors with its majestic presence.
After enjoying a local lunch, your journey continues to the Nebuta Museum Warasse. This striking riverside building, wrapped in bold red metal slats, is dedicated to the iconic Nebuta Festival. Inside, you'll find an immersive showcase of Aomori’s culture and history, featuring vibrant lanterns, historic photographs, and weekend dance performances that bring the festival spirit to life.
Conclude your tour at the Aomori Prefecture Tourist Center ASPAM, a unique A-shaped building that represents the prefecture’s name. This 76-meter-tall landmark offers panoramic views of Mutsu Bay from its 13th floor and is a great spot to sample local delicacies, purchase handcrafted souvenirs, and enjoy exhibits on Aomori’s natural beauty and cultural traditions. After a full day of discovery, you’ll be comfortably transferred back to the port.
