Special Instructions:
Your Rome shore tour begins with a comfortable pick-up at the cruise terminal in Civitavecchia. From here, you will embark on a scenic drive towards Rome, enjoying views of the Italian countryside along the way.
Pyramid of Cestius & Circus Maximus (3o minutes)
Upon arrival in Rome, your first stop will be the Pyramid of Cestius, an ancient Roman pyramid standing at the intersection of key Roman roads. Nearby, you will visit the historic Circus Maximus, the grand stadium that hosted thrilling chariot races in ancient times. Your guide will provide fascinating insights into its rich history and significance.
Palatine Hill & Colosseum (1 hour)
Next, you will drive past Palatine Hill, one of the most famous of Rome’s seven hills and home to ancient imperial palaces. Soon, you will arrive at the legendary Colosseum, the iconic amphitheater where gladiators once battled. You can choose to admire it from the outside or purchase skip-the-line tickets for an inside visit.
Capitoline Hill & Piazza Venezia (30 minutes)
Your Italy shore excursions continues with a visit to Capitoline Hill, home to Rome’s Town Hall and a significant political center of ancient times. You will also pass by Piazza Venezia, where you will see the impressive monument dedicated to Italy’s last king, Victor Emmanuel II.
Pantheon & Trevi Fountain (1 hour)
Next, you will visit the magnificent Pantheon, an ancient temple dedicated to all gods, known for its grand dome and oculus. A short walk from here will take you to the Trevi Fountain, one of the most famous fountains in the world. Don’t forget to toss a coin over your shoulder to ensure your return to Rome!
Lunch Break in Trastevere or Campo de' Fiori (1 hour and a half)
Enjoy a delicious, traditional Roman meal in the charming neighborhood of Trastevere or the lively square of Campo de' Fiori. Your guide will recommend excellent local restaurants (not included in tour) where you can savor authentic Italian cuisine and a glass of wine.
St. Peter’s Basilica & Vatican City (1 hour and a half)
After lunch, you will head to St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the holiest sites in Christianity. Here, you can marvel at its Renaissance and Baroque architecture, as well as Michelangelo’s famous Pietà sculpture. If time permits, you may also explore St. Peter’s Square and its impressive colonnades.
Scenic Drive Back to Civitavecchia
As your journey comes to an end, you will enjoy a relaxing drive back to Civitavecchia, passing by some of Rome’s most picturesque streets and hidden gems along the way. Your driver will drop you off at the cruise terminal in time for your departure, concluding a memorable day exploring the Eternal City.
